The Land Rover Discovery Sport has been given a revamp for 2021, thanks to new in-car tech, trim levels and mild-hybrid engine options.

Land Rover has given its Discovery Sport model a mild update; adding some new tech and features to the upmarket family SUV. As well as new in-car tech, the refreshed Discovery Sport is now available with new engines, new safety gear and a new trim level for buyers to pick from.

The new 2021 Discovery Sport looks very similar to the previous model.

If you’re expecting any major visual changes from the Discovery Sport update, then you may be a bit disappointed. The only notable change to the overall look of the Discovery Sport is if you opt for the new Black Edition model. As its name suggests, it mainly involves having more of the Discovery Sport’s bodywork painted in black – namely the front bumper, the roof and the wheel arch surrounds.

2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport engines

The only brand-new engine for the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport is a 290hp mild-hybrid petrol engine that’s exclusive to Black Edition cars. The Discovery Sport’s existing 163hp and 204hp diesel engines have been given the mild-hybrid treatment to improve their fuel economy. They aren’t ‘full’ hybrids, however, so you can’t drive using just electric power.

The new car comes with the same practical seven-seat cabin as the old Discovery Sport.

2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport interior

There aren’t many changes to write home about regarding the updated Discovery Sport’s interior. The only real noteworthy change is the new touchscreen display, which ditches Land Rover’s old infotainment tech in favour of its new Pivi system that’s capable of receiving over-the-air updates – meaning you don’t need to visit an authorised Land Rover dealer to get the latest software for your car.

Because the cabin is otherwise unchanged, the updated Discovery Sport has a spacious and well-built interior with enough space to seat five adults in relative comfort. There are also two extra seats in the rear, though they’re only really big enough for children to use on shorter car journeys.

The latest Discovery Sport gets an upgraded infotainment system.

2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport technology

While the new touchscreen is perhaps the most obvious new gadget on the updated Discovery Sport, Land Rover has added a few more gizmos. Now you can connect up to two smartphones to the infotainment system at the same time using Bluetooth, and the Discovery Sport also has an air filtration system that Land Rover claims can make the air inside the cabin cleaner than the air outside.

Some new safety features have also been added to the Discovery Sport as part of the update. A particularly handy feature is the new rear traffic monitoring system, which can alert the driver when they’re reversing out of a parking space if there are any pedestrians, vehicles or other obstructions around them.

The new Discovery Sport is on sale now.
