New BMW 2 Series Active Tourer engines and prices

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is available with two mild-hybrid petrol engines and one diesel engine. There’ll soon be a BMW 2 Series Active Tourer plug-in hybrid, but you’ll have to wait ’till summer 2022 before you can buy one.

Every new 2 Series Active Tourer comes with an automatic gearbox as standard.

Model Engine (power) MPG Price (OTR)
220i 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol
(170hp)
43.5–47.9 £30,265
223i 2.0-litre mild-hybrid petrol

42.8-47.1 £32,715
218d 2.0-litre diesel

These prices mean the cheapest 2 Series Active Tourer costs about the same as a comparable Mercedes B-Class.

New BMW 2 Series Active Tourer specs and features

You can get the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in three trim levels: Sport, Luxury and M Sport.

Every model comes with cruise control, front collision warning and lane-departure warning as standard. Inside, you’ll find a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display in place on analogue dials and a 10.7-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring features.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Sport

Entry-level Sport models come with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, cloth seats, parking sensors and a reversing camera as standard.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Luxury

In Luxury spec, the 2 Series Active Tourer comes with different 17-inch alloy wheels, shiny aluminium exterior trim pieces and leather seats with heating for the driver and front-seat passenger.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer M Sport

M Sport models are the sportiest of the new 2 Series Active Tourer range. They come with a different front bumper, larger 18-inch alloy wheels and adaptive LED headlights. Inside, you get a wireless phone charging pad and heated seats with suede-like Alcantara trim.

2022 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer design

So the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer isn’t exactly a revolution in design compared with the old car, retaining a familiar boxy silhouette and short overhangs — if it isn’t broke, why fix it?

It does get a larger set of ‘kidney’ grilles upfront though, as is the way of BMW at the moment, along with sharper headlights which are LED as standard across the range.

Slimmer LED tailights are fitted too, and BMW is keen to highlight the exhaust pipes have been designed not to be on show and tucked away — no trim fakery going on here.

You’ve got a selection of alloy wheels ranging from 17- to 18-inches too, depending on which spec of 2 Series Active Tourer you opt for.

2022 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer interior and infotainment

You’re probably looking at a BMW 2 Series Active Tourer as a family car, so you’ll be keen to hear it’s apparently more spacious for passengers than the old car.

Boot space for diesel models is 470 litres, though petrol cars can only must 415 litres of space because the batteries for their hybrid systems occupy some space beneath the floor.

There are fewer physical controls than the last Active Tourer too, with a lot of functions now found within the infotainment system.

Speaking of which, that’s an updated system too and is displayed on a 10.7-inch display, with support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You’ll get a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display as well.
