A refreshed version of the Mercedes-AMG A45 looks to be on the way with lightly camouflaged prototypes spotted testing.

This alternative to the Audi RS3 and BMW M2 will get some slight visual tweaks and an upgraded infotainment system, along with the potential of mild-hybrid tech.

2022 Mercedes-AMG A45 facelift design

There’s a fair bit of camouflage at the front end of this Mercedes-AMG A45 prototype, suggesting some pretty heavy changes are coming to the design of the hot hatch.

A new mesh grille is fitted to the prototype, and it looks like sensors for its safety assistance bits have been moved within the badge for a slightly cleaner appearance.

It’s possible new headlights may feature as well, with a similar treatment at the back. Little appears to have changed at the rear outside of the taillights, though.

2022 Mercedes-AMG A45 facelift interior and infotainment

Don’t expect revolutionary changes over the interior of the current A45 (pictured), though a new infotainment screen is likely

No images of the interior on this updated Mercedes-AMG A45 prototype have surfaced, but expect a handful of tweaks.

The actual design may stay largely the same, but an upgraded version of the MBUX infotainment system is likely to be integrated. This could be moved to a portrait-set display like the new C-Class, with a more clever ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice assistant featuring.

2022 Mercedes-AMG A45 facelift engine

It’s unlikely the Mercedes-AMG A45 will see a performance boost, with the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine already producing a healthy 421hp in ‘S’ guise.

It could get mild-hybrid tech though to improve emissions and fuel economy, with an ever so slight increase on the current car’s 500Nm of torque.

The A45 will retain an all-wheel-drive system and a dual-clutch eight-speed automatic gearbox.

2022 Mercedes-AMG A45 facelift price and release date

Don’t expect to see the Mercedes-AMG A45 facelift for a while yet, with an on-sale date unlikely before the end of 2022.

When it does arrive though, expect a slight hike over the existing car’s price — perhaps closer to £55,000.
