Kia XCeed interior

The Kia XCeed shares much of the standard Ceed’s interior. As such, it’s sturdy and attractive, but the standard infotainment system isn’t the best around

Style

The Kia XCeed’s interior looks pretty smart but doesn’t quite have the same upmarket feel as a VW T-Cross or Skoda Karoq. Most of the surfaces you touch regularly – from the soft padded plastics on the doors to the squidgy dashboard – feel reasonably posh and all models come with a leather-trimmed steering wheel as standard.

Entry-level cars come with fabric upholstery but ‘3’ versions get some faux leather trim on the front seat bolsters. Go for a high-spec First Edition and you get leather seats as standard with contrasting yellow stitching.

These high-spec cars also come with some metal pedal trims and a panoramic glass roof to make the cabin feel that little bit airier.

Infotainment

The entry-level ‘2’ Kia XCeed comes with an 8-inch widescreen touchscreen infotainment system with DAB radio and Bluetooth. It’s bright and responsive to touch, and the menus are simple to follow. You don’t get satnav, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, so you can mirror a range of navigation apps from your smartphone on the Kia’s built-in screen.

From mid-level ‘3’ trim the screen size increases to 10 inches and brings slick touch-sensitive shortcut buttons and a built-in sat-nav which is easy to operate. Although, once again, your iPhone or Android phone’s maps are even better – especially for traffic updates. Other features on the upgraded system include live weather and parking info as well as the ability to connect to your XCeed via a smartphone app – should you ever need to check whether you left a window down from inside your house.

The Kia XCeed is also the first Kia to get fully digital driver’s dials, although only range-topping First Edition models. It’s visually appealing, clear to understand and you can cycle through a small amount of trip info, but it doesn’t have customisable views like VW’s version.

Finally, if you’re not too bothered about your music then the XCeed’s standard six-speaker sound system will be enough. However, if you enjoy cranking up the bass, then there’s an eight-speaker JBL sound system that’ll do just the job. Once again, though, it’s only available on range-topping models.
