The Kia Sportage has an eye-catching cabin that is solidly built, it’s just a shame that some of the controls can be fiddly.
Style
The Sportage has a classy looking cabin that certainly moves the game on compared to its predecessor. There are plenty of plush materials and shiny metallic trims used throughout to make it look modern and upmarket. It may not look as exciting as the interior of a Peugeot 3008, but it easily matches it for quality.
The dashboard is dominated by the panel containing two screens, with some shortcut buttons below. There’s a silver trim strip to split the dashboard up and make it look more interesting, and the air vents have some gloss black surrounds to add further visual appeal.
Moving down to the centre console, there is yet more gloss black trim that looks good, but it can reflect things in your eyeline in bright sunlight. All the controls here are logically laid out, with your gear selector and driving modes all contained in this area. The door panels have more silver trim, and are finished in soft touch material.
Entry level Sportage models get cloth seats, while mid spec cars get half leather and top of the range versions get full leather. GT-Line models get some sporty additions such as aluminium pedals and a sports steering wheel with perforated leather.

Infotainment
As standard on entry level cars, the Kia Sportage gets an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. All other models get a larger 12.3-inch screen. The system itself is easy enough to use, with a clear menu layout and it’s quick and responsive to your touch.
There is a touch sensitive panel of shortcut buttons below the display which can change depending on what you want to adjust. While this looks cool and tidies up the dash, it can be hard to know if you’re pressing the right area. The climate controls are buried here as well, and it can take too many button presses to do simple things like change the temperature.
All but the entry level Sportage get built in sat-nav, and it’s pretty easy to use. Entering a postcode is simple enough when parked and it gives clear instructions. As is the case with most systems though, you’ll be better off plugging your phone in and using Google Maps through Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
Parking sensors and a reversing camera come as standard on all models, while a 360-degree system is also available on higher specced cars. The image from the camera is crisp and clear, while the guidance lines make parking in tight spaces a breeze.
