BMW 4 Series interior
The BMW 4 Series has a brilliantly solid cabin and the best infotainment system in this type of car, but a C-Class Coupe has more dramatic styling inside.
Style
If you were to liken German car interiors to musicians, Audi’s are usually a bit like Damien Rice, Mercedes’ like Madness and BMW’s somewhere in the middle – Kings of Leon, maybe.
As such, in terms of design, if you value an in your face look most of all, then the C-CLass Coupe will probably appeal more than this BMW 4 Series. However, if you find the 4 Series’ interior a bit exciting, the Audi A5’s will be more up your street.
It might not be that jazzy, but the BMW has the best-built interior. Everything is solid and the materials are all lovely to look at and touch, including metallic surfaces, piano black plastics and cold-to-touch trims. Audi isn’t far behind, but there are decidedly more creaks inside a C-Class Coupe.
Leather sports seats are standard in the 4 Series, but on more expensive models you can upgrade the quality of the leather. On M models you can upgrade to M seats, too, which look even more aggressive and hold you in place more firmly.

Infotainment
In Mercedes’ larger cars its infotainment system narrowly beats BMW’s for visual drama and the way it works, but in the 4 Series and C-Class Coupe it’s the BMW that takes the win. Audi’s is a close third.
BMW’s latest iDrive system just looks better, works better and now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Although, check the terms and conditions, because some of our Android phones with older versions of the operating system couldn’t get connected.
Nevertheless, BMW’s native menus are very easy to follow, and getting a postcode into the built-in sat-nav is the work of a minute. BMW’s voice control is better than most, but still slips up on some commands, so we’d rather just stick with Google.
You can have wireless charging inside for your smartphone as an option, plus you can upgrade the standard stereo to a punchier Harman Kardon one if you appreciate your music. It’s not too much more in the grand scheme of things and sounds great, so we’d go for it.
If there’s one negative, it’s that the 4 Series’ digital driver’s dials just look a bit dark and gloomy. Sure, they display all the info you want and are easily configurable via the multifunction sports steering wheel, but Audi does a brighter and generally more engaging version.
