Mazda CX-5 interior
The CX-5’s cabin is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades. It looks pretty slick and comes with lots of desirable kit as standard but doesn’t really stand out from the crowd.
Style
The Mazda CX-5 comes with plenty of kit and lots of soft-touch materials as standard. The dashboard and doors feel suitably squidgy and all models get convincing faux leather trims on the rather minimalist centre console.
Less deserving of praise is the CX-5’s rather 8.0-inch infotainment screen. Its thick black plastic frame looks a little cheap and the screen itself isn’t quite as responsive as what you’ll find in a Skoda Kodiaq. Thankfully, you do get satellite-navigation as standard on all models.
Sport Nav+ cars take the SE-L Nav+’s well-appointed interior and add electrically adjustable heated leather seats (it’s the only model where these are available) and glossy wood-effect trims on the dashboard.

Infotainment
You get an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system on every Mazda CX-5. It comes with satellite navigation and is relatively easy to read on the move, even in bright sunlight.
Unfortunately, the touchscreen is a little slow to respond, but thankfully, there’s a rotary dial on the centre console. However, even this can get fiddly and, annoyingly, this is the only way you can operate the infotainment while driving.
You’ll have to lean forward to reach the touchscreen because it’s mounted way up on the dashboard. The maps are fairly clear and the directions are easy to follow but you don’t get a handy second screen nestled between the dials to remind you of approaching turnings like in the Skoda Kodiaq.
You can get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the Mazda CX-5. These mirror the screen of your phone and you can use a variety of apps for music streaming or navigation. You can also use the conventional Bluetooth connection if you want to make calls or play your phone’s music through the car’s stereo.
On the subject of music, your tunes will sound especially good if you pick a higher-spec model. They come with an upgraded Bose stereo system with 10 speakers instead of the standard car’s six.
