Land Rover Discovery Sport interior

The Discovery Sport’s interior gets padded material or leather trims that make up for some of the cheaper plastics. Similarly, the infotainment has a nice display, but is fiddly to use.

Style

The Discovery Sport’s interior is a pleasant place to sit, with plenty of smart trims and leather seats fitted to all but the entry-level model. Spend some time with the car, though, and you’ll find things that aren’t so nice like the flimsy ventilation knobs, yellow filament lighting and trims that look – but don’t feel like – metal.

Then there’s the panel of black plastic on the lower half of the centre console, which reflects like a mirror. Here you’ll find the controls for the car’s ventilation system and drive select but it’s fiddly to use with buttons that disappear depending on what mode you’re in.

Entry-level S models get fabric seats and padded upholstery on the dashboard and insides of the doors, while SE models swap the upholstery for leather. HSEs, meanwhile, get softer Windsor leather and illuminated kick plates in their door openings.

S, SE and HSE models can also be had in combination with sporty R Dynamic trim that, on the inside, adds Mars Red stitching to the dashboard, doors and seats. R Dynamic cars also get larger alloy wheels and a sportier body kit on the outside.

Infotainment

The Discovery Sport comes with Land Rover’s 10-inch Pivi infotainment system as standard. Its graphics are colourful but the screen itself isn’t particularly responsive and the small buttons are more fiddly to operate than the fixed control you get between the seats of a Mercedes GLC or BMW X3.

Levelling up to an SE model doesn’t solve this, but does swap the entry-level car’s analogue dials for Land Rover’s Interactive Driver Display behind the steering wheel. It means you can have the sat-nav’s maps displayed in the instrument binnacle, but navigating the menus is tricky using the touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel.

HSE models add more tech. They come with Land Rover’s ClearSight rear-view mirror as standard, which is actually an HD display that beams back an image from the camera mounted on the roof. It gives a wider, clearer view than a traditional mirror but also suffers badly from reflections with a low sun. Flicking a switch reverts it back to a conventional mirror.

HSE models also get a Meridian stereo as standard, upgrading the 180W six-speaker set-up fitted to all other models for a 10-speaker, 380W system with a bassy subwoofer.
