SEAT Ibiza interior

The Ibiza’s cabin is a lot less bland-looking in 2021, with some splashes of colour to liven it up and better technology.

Style

The SEAT Ibiza interior has always been neatly organised and easy to get on with, but the previous version was as dark and drab as a nightclub after closing time.

Thanks to a series of tweaks for 2021, the Ibiza is a lot more welcoming inside. Rather than an endless sea of black and great plastic, there’s now a big metallic strip across the dash of even the cheapest models, while the air vent surrounds can be had in a number of different colours. It’s hardly a Rolls-Royce now, but the differences make it a bit more habitable.

There’s also a new soft-touch upper dash portion to make things a little classier, but it’s a shame there is still a fair few hard and scratchy plastics dotted around – particularly on the doors. Still, the Volkswagen Polo and Audi A1 exist if that really matters to you, while the SEAT Ibiza’s cabin feels solidly screwed together.

Top-sped cars get Alcantara-like seat trim which feels posher, too, while the sports seats on FR trims are nicely supportive. It’s just a pity there’s no lumbar adjustment.

Infotainment

Watch our SEAT Ibiza interior and infotainment video review

SEAT Ibiza SE models now come with a much larger 8.25-inch colour touchscreen with Bluetooth and DAB as standard. You also get Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink as standard. These features let you use many of your smartphone’s features – such as sat nav, music playback and messaging apps – through the Ibiza’s screen.

The higher-spec system (on all trim variants above SE) brings a larger 9.2-inch display that’s easier to read and adds satellite navigation. Both screens look glossy and slick, and the menus are jazzier to look at, while they’re better than the old units the screens aren’t quite as responsive as you might hope. At least the sat-nav system is much more pleasing on the eye.

Our biggest gripe, however, is that there is no longer proper shortcut buttons for the shortcut menus – only fiddlier touch-sensitive ones – while the removal of the super-simple volume knob for touch sensitive sliders seems bizarre. At least you can easily adjust volume or your track via the steering wheel buttons, which aren’t touch sensitive.

The SEAT Ibiza’s stereo isn’t anything to write home about, but it’s certainly loud and bassy enough to embarrass the kids on the school run. You can also get a handy wireless phone charger to make sure low battery won’t put a stop to your tunes.
