Honda Jazz interior

The Honda Jazz has a quirky interior that’s more interesting than the small car norm. But, despite its infotainment system being better than ever, there are even slicker systems on sale.

Style

2020 Honda Jazz

The design of the Jazz’s interior is far more interesting than in a Fiesta or Polo. There are different shapes and textures plus a raised centre console with the gear selector set quite high up. The buttons are coated in a nice ceramic effect too.

Quality is good, although the types of materials used are mixed. Some are hard, some are soft and some in between – there doesn’t seem to be much consistency. Still, everything is well laid out so you won’t be hunting around buttons too often.

Things do get slightly more luxurious as you go up the range, because while entry-level SE cars come with plastic interior panels and cloth seats, mid-range SR comes with leather interior panels and range-topping EX gets that plus half-leather seats. Crosstar models are alone in getting waterproof seat fabric.

Infotainment

2020 Honda Jazz

The Jazz’s infotainment is a big step up from what Honda has produced in the past – if you go for at least mid-range SR trim, that is. Entry-level models get a 5-inch non-touchscreen system that includes a USB connection, DAB radio and Bluetooth, but not a lot else.

Really, you want to step up to SR for the infotainment alone. It gets a 9-inch screen with the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto meaning you can use it just like your smartphone. To be honest, Honda’s native system is easy to use, if not the most visually appealing. The screen responds nicely to touch, though, and doesn’t lag.

EX cars (which includes Crosstar models) add built-in sat-nav to the same 9-inch system, but when smartphone nav apps are so good, we see little point upgrading just for this feature.

Digital dials come on all models and they are reasonably clear and easy to understand. They aren’t particularly beautiful, mind – you’ll find far more colourful and configurable ones in a VW Polo.
