Jaguar F-PACE interior

The latest F-Pace is vastly improved inside over the outgoing car, and it needed to be to match the Germans

Style

Before the 2021 update of the F-Pace its interior was a fair way off the best (German) SUV competition. Both the fit-and-finish and cabin technology wasn’t up to the standard you’d expect for the money.

Now, though, things are different. The first thing you’ll notice is how much nicer everything looks – there’s a greater variety of trim and upholstery colours to lighten it up, and you’d be forgiven for thinking even the base model was a more expensive car than it was. The seats, which can be both heated and cooled and are electric even on base models – are nice and comfy, too.

Then you poke and prod it and feel how plush it seems now. Aside from one or two cheaper bits, it all feels soft to the touch, while the new wheel design and upgraded centre console are much nicer. All models – even the entry-level F-Pace – get a good level of standard equipment for the money, too, although as is the case with most of these posh SUVs you can still spend big by loading up the options list.

Infotainment

The F-Pace is also now up with BMW, Mercedes and Audi for cabin tech – and that’s not something you could say about the old model.

Every car in the range gets a new 11.4in curved touchscreen in the centre of the dash. It’s integrated nicely, is responsive to the touch and has sharp and modern graphics. It’s feature-packed, too, although not totally immune from the occasional glitch or laggy menu in our experience.

Also, while it’s great for a touchscreen, it doesn’t have the option of a rotary wheel or touchpad to control it that BMW and Mercedes do – they just make it that bit easier to use things on the move. Of course, there’s a head-up display for info at a quick glance, while the digital dials are slick – if not the most configurable out there.

The F-Pace also has the same clever surround-view camera tech that was first seen on the new Land Rover Defender. There’s also the option of upgrading the sound system.
