Audi Q5 Sportback interior
The Q5 Sportback’s cabin is as classy and tech-laden as the Q5, but there’s a bit less headroom. Also, as with the Q5, some things that should be standard are optional and the options themselves aren’t cheap.
Style
The new Audi Q5 Sportback’s interior looks much the same as the standard Q5’s cabin, at least in the front. You get the same classy dashboard design with Audi’s latest infotainment system. This consists of a standard-fit 12.3-inch virtual cockpit and a free-standing 10.1-inch touchscreen display. Audi has also upgraded the voice commands that now respond to the ‘Hey Audi’ trigger phrase.
Thankfully, the standard Q5’s cabin was already among the best in its class – the technology all works well and build quality is extremely good.
The interior layout itself isn’t as up-to-date as the newest Audis, such as the A3. But in many ways that’s a good thing – it gets the modern technology that came with the updated Q5, but keeps some of the classy touches not found on the A3 such as the neat-looking and nice-feeling rotary dials for the climate control.
Every Audi Q5 comes with leather seats as standard but S line versions come with more supportive sports seats trimmed in leather and suede-like Alcantara. Cold-to-the-touch aluminium trims help it stand out from entry-level models, too.

Infotainment
You’ll find the Audi Q5 Sportback’s standard infotainment system pretty effective and feature-packed. Its 10.1-inch display is bright, clear and crisp, and there’s loads of features built-in. The only pity is that Audi has ditched the rotary scroll wheel to make selecting functions easier on the move than using the touchscreen. But advanced voice control can help in that respect.
All Audi Q5s come with satellite navigation as standard. If you don’t fancy using Audi’s own sat-nav, all Q5 Sportbacks come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring as standard. This means you can use your phone’s navigation and music streaming apps – among others – through the Q5’s central display.
All models also get a 12-inch display behind the steering wheel which replaces old-fashioned dials. This extra screen makes it a breeze to quickly glance down at sat-nav directions or view high-resolution Google Maps in glorious full-screen. You can easily tweak the display using buttons on the steering wheel and it’s bright enough to be clearly visible, even in direct sunlight.
Every Q5 Sportback comes with a 10-speaker stereo with a subwoofer and 180W amp as standard. It sounds great and makes the optional Bang and Olufsen upgrade seem a little unnecessary.
