Audi RS5 Sportback interior

The Audi RS5 Sportback looks smart and feels plush on the inside, but newer alternatives such as the BMW M3 Competition are even more appealing

Style

Material quality throughout the RS5 Sportback’s cabin is generally very high, although the much newer BMW M3 is the flasher looking car of the two.

Still, the Audi’s chunky, super supportive RS sports seats are upholstered in soft Nappa leather as standard, and there are some neat chrome and carbon-fibre trim finishers (part of the Carbon Black pack) on the dash and centre console. It all looks very sporty, that’s for sure.

You will find some hard, scratchy plastics lower down in the cabin, but ultimately these don’t detract from what is an impressively classy and well-made interior. Next to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, which looks and feels a wee bit underwhelming in places, the Audi RS5 Sportback is in another league.

Infotainment

The RS5 Sportback gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Generally, the graphics are super clear and the system itself is impressively slick and responsive, but the screen’s positioning on the top of the dashboard does look a little dated.

With no place to rest your hand it can be a little bit tricky to use on the move too, but at least Audi has resisted the temptation to integrate the controls for the air conditioning into the screen. You still get actual physical dials and buttons for this, and they’re easy to reach and feel like they’ve been made out of high-quality materials.

You don’t get analogue dials in the RS5 Sportback, either. A large 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit comes as standard, and this digital screen is just as clear and easy to read as its touchscreen counterpart. It can be set to show driving and mapping information – or tell you what song is currently playing on your iPhone – with the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel.

A wireless charge pad is available as standard.
