The Cupra Leon has some smart detailing to mark it out over the less sporting Leon, but it’s a minimalist look
Style
Good though the Seat Leon is, it’s interior doesn’t exactly floor you with rich materials and an exciting design.
Thankfully, like your history teacher dressing up for a night on the town, Cupra has given the cabin a bit of an upgrade to help it look and feel more special.
For starters, there’s more copper on show here than at a scrap metal merchants. The colour is used for edging the dashboard and air vents, detailing on the steering wheel, and stitching on the doors and seats. It brings a welcome lift to what would otherwise be quite a dark place to sit, and contrasts nicely with the optional blue leather. It’s certainly less dour inside than a Ford Focus ST.
There’s also unique LED lighting details, while the steering wheel itself is more racy in design with a flat bottom. On certain variants there are also engine start and drive mode selector buttons nearly integrated into the wheel, too. You also get body-hugging sports seats with integrated headrests.
Quality is generally very good inside the Cupra Leon, Sure, if you look hard enough you can spot some areas where Cupra has made cost savings over a VW Golf GTI, but by and large it’s a well executed, attractive place to sit.

Infotainment
Every Cupra Leon gets one option for infotainment: a 10in touchscreen with DAB radio, sat-nav and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring.
The Apple and Android mirroring systems are wireless, which is great as your best bet is to connect up your phone and avoid the sometimes fiddly infotainment menus. With that in use the screen is bright, crisp and acceptably responsive.
If you don’t fancy connecting up your phone, the Leon’s infotainment is a bit of a mixed bag. For the most part it’s easy enough to operate, but sometimes it doesn’t respond to your input as you expect it to. As in other VW Group products, you’ll likely find the touch sensitive sliders to control the temperature and volume below the screen pretty fiddly, too, and they’re bizarrely not backlit at night.
Still, the standard-fit 10.25in digital instrument cluster is clear and nicely customisable.
