Mercedes AMG GLB 35 interior

The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35’s cabin looks fantastic, but it isn’t dramatically different from the standard GLB and some of the infotainment system’s voice controls aren’t all that reliable.

Style

The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35’s cabin doesn’t look dramatically different to the cabin you get in AMG Line versions of the standard GLB. For example, the contrasting red stitching, supportive sports seats with man-made leather trim and metal shift paddles behind the steering wheel are all available in the standard car.

The steering wheel has a flat-bottomed section, extra red stitching and perforated Nappa leather trim, but you can upgrade to an AMG Performance wheel that sports a set of rotary dials that let you switch between different driving modes without using the infotainment system.

Speaking of which, the AMG GLB 35 gets two 10.25-inch screens as standard (in place of the entry-level GLB’s 7-inch units) and there are some AMG-exclusive graphics for the speedometer and rev counter.

Elsewhere throughout the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35’s cabin, you’ll find plenty of soft-touch plastics, many brushed metal-effect trims and solid-feeling switches and levers that operate with a pleasing damped action.

If you were expecting this AMG-tuned car’s cabin to come with plenty of exclusive upgrades, you might be a bit disappointed to hear it has plenty in common with the standard GLB.

Infotainment

Just like many other Mercedes models, the AMG-tuned GLB 35 comes with a pair of large infotainment screens that together form an almost seamless widescreen display in front of the steering wheel.

These are bright and come with super-sharp graphics that help make them dead easy to read on the move, and you can easily customise them using a set of touch-sensitive buttons on the steering wheel.

You can also navigate through the system’s numerous – and fairly intuitive – menus using a larger touchpad or the touchscreen itself. The latter makes it a doddle to input an address into the sat nav and you can easily swipe and pinch to look around the maps screen without any frustrating lag.

If you don’t like Mercedes’ own navigation system, you can always use the standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring system to access your phone’s navigation apps through the AMG GLB 35’s built-in screen.

These systems do disable some of the car’s ‘Hey Mercedes’ personal assistance functions, but that’s not a big deal. While this feature does let you set the temperature and change the stereo settings without taking your hands off the wheel, it doesn’t work quite as reliably as BMW’s similar ‘Hey BMW’ feature.
