Peugeot 308 interior

The Peugeot 308’s interior looks like it belongs in something much more expensive, but the dinky steering wheel design takes some getting used to

Style

Peugeot has really out-done itself with the new 308’s interior. It’s easily one of the most interesting cabins you’ll find in any new hatchback.

Dashboard has an odd stepped design that positions the digital dials high-up and close to the windscreen, meaning that you peer over the car’s small steering wheel to read them rather than through it.

Beside this is a pair of touchscreens and a bank of flashy metallic air vents that sit in a silver panel that stretches from one door to another.

All this makes the new Peugeot 308s interior appear wider and roomier than most, and the numerous soft-touch materials and solid metal-effect trims mean it feels suitably posh, too.

Besides entry-level Active Premium cars, all 308s come with interior mood lighting and sporty GT versions add leather steering wheel trim with some bright green stitching. It sounds like an odd combination, but it works well.

Infotainment

Peugeot infotainment systems used to be a bit of an achilles’ heel, but the new 308 gets an all-new touchscreen setup that’s far easier to use.

This 10-inch display sits nice and high on the dashboard and is angled towards the driver. It’s easy to read in bright sunlight, despite its glossy finish, and the icons and menus have bright high-contrast graphics that are easy to spot with a quick glance.

Unlike other Peugeots, such as the 508 saloon, you don’t get a row of physical shortcut buttons underneath. Instead, you get a second touchscreen with big, easy-to-tap icons. These are even customisable so you can display the features you use most often.

This setup is far easier to use than the occasionally fiddly menus in the new Volkswagen Golf and the screen is more responsive than the hesitant touchscreens in a Ford Focus or Honda Civic.

If you don’t fancy using Peugeot’s own stereo and navigation apps (which are mostly pretty intuitive) every 308 comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so you can use your favourite apps through the car’s touchscreen instead.

Mid-range Allure Premium models also come with wireless smartphone connectivity and a wireless charging pad, so you can leave all those tangled cables at home for good.
