Jaguar I-PACE interior

The Jaguar I-Pace’s interior looks and feels plusher than a Tesla’s, and its infotainment system is much improved over early efforts.

Style

The I-Pace’s interior is futuristic but also genuinely plush – something you couldn’t honestly say about a Tesla – with lashings of leather, cool brushed aluminium and soft plastic trims dotted around its cabin.

Entry-level S models get faux leather electric sports seats, while mid-level SE cars upgrade these to full real leather with more movement and memory. Then, range-topping HSE models get the plushest leather pews and more movement than you could adjust a stick at.

You can also choose between various interior colours, which costs extra on S and SE models, but is a no-cost option if you spend the extra for HSE trim. Ambient lighting and illuminated treadplates cost extra across the range if you want to spice things up a bit further.

Infotainment

Where Teslas comes with one vast portrait touchscreen, the Jaguar I-Pace has three smaller displays. There’s one behind the steering wheel replaces conventional analogue dials while the two on the centre console control all the car’s climate control, satellite navigation and media playback functions. There’s also a haptic central rotary controller.

Its screens are all bright and responsive to use, and the latest Pivi Pro software is more intuitive than its predecessor, and mroe accurately mimics the gestures you’d use to control a smartphone. However, the dash-mounted displays can reflect sunlight quite badly, making them difficult to see clearly while driving. Still, at least DAB radio, Bluetooth, sat-nav and are all included, and so too are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There are two levels of Meridien sound system to choose between, the entry-level 380-watt coming on S and SE cars, and the 825-watt one on HSE models. In truth, they both sound great.
