2020 Mercedes GLA price and release date

The new Mercedes GLA is a small crossover SUV with alternatives that include the BMW X1 and Audi Q2. This means that you can expect the car’s price tag to start from around £28,000.

The GLA will be officially unveiled later this year, with its release coming sometime in 2020.

2020 Mercedes GLA styling

The new GLA was recently snapped by spy photographers in Stuttgart, Germany. The model pictured is totally camouflaged from bonnet to boot, although you can still tell that it’s going to be much chunkier than its close relative, the Mercedes A-Class hatchback. The suspension has been raised, the body is taller and there are more pronounced haunches over the rear wheels. Roof rails are clearly visible, as well.

To complement the GLA’s bulking up of the A-Class, you can expect the addition of larger bumpers and, at the front end, a skid plate.

2020 Mercedes GLA specs

Expect the GLA to have a wide array of engines available from launch. These will range from 1.3 to 2.0 litres in size, with both diesel and petrol options to pick from. Front-wheel drive is likely to be standard across the board. However, you will be able to get traction from all four wheels as an optional extra on higher-end trims. Also, the GLA will have either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearbox.

2020 Mercedes GLA interior and infotainment

Much like its A-Class sibling, the 2020 GLA will get Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment setup. This takes the usual digital driver’s display and central, dashboard-mounted infotainment touchscreen and conjoins them, resulting ina pair of dual monitors. Both will measure seven inches diagonally, with one or all of them able to be made larger as an optional extra.

The technology that comes hand-in-hand with the MBUX system includes lane-keeping and -changing assistance, DAB radio, cruise control and air conditioning. Another one, slightly more outside-the-box, is the Augmented Reality satnav, which displays directional graphics over a live feed of the road ahead.

As for the cabin itself, the materials and design probably won’t shift much over the A-Class’. The GLA’s dashboard will feature the same fancy air vents and chrome metal trims as you’d find in the hatchback.
