October 20, 2020 by

The new stripped-out track-prepped Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA will cost from more than £161,000 when it goes on sale in the UK soon.

  • 540hp Giulia revealed
  • Upgraded aerodynamics
  • Retuned suspension
  • 100kg lighter than standard
  • GTAm with no back seats
  • Will cost from £161,000

The new hard-core Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA will be one of the most expensive sports saloons on sale when it appears in the UK soon. This track-ready alternative to the upcoming BMW M3 Competition, Mercedes-AMG C63S and Jaguar Project 8 is lighter, more powerful, and far more expensive than the standard Giulia.

The new GTA (above) looks like a full-blown race-car compared with the Giulia Quadrifoglio (below).

Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA design

The standard Giulia Quadrifoglio was a pretty wild-looking saloon, but these new GTA  and GTAm models have dialled the aggression up to 11. Both are absolutely covered in sharp, angular carbon-fibre bits including a new front splitter, air intake trims, wider side skirts and flared rear wheel arches. Oh, and a massive rear spoiler – don’t forget about that.

The GTAm (above) loses two exhausts tips, but gains a massive new spoiler.

Under this colossal wing, you’ll spot a new rear diffuser and pair of exhausts pipes – two fewer than on the standard Giulia Quadrifoglio. Don’t feel too hard-done-by, though – this dual-tip system is built by specialists Akrapovic and is made of super-lightweight titanium.

The new GTA has been developed with the help of Alfa Romeo’s F1 drivers.

Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA engine and driving

The standard Giulia Quadrifoglio was a riot to drive. It had plenty of power and its rear-wheel-drive layout meant it’d happily turn its rear tyres into plumes of smoke at the drop of a hat. The new 540hp GTA model’s 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine produces 35hp more than the standard car, so it should be even more of a hoot to drive.

The standard Giulia Quadrifoglio will accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds, and you can bet the new GTA will be even quicker. Go for a stripped-out GTAm model (which weighs 100kg less than the standard car) and it’ll be even faster still. Both the GTA and GTAm come with retuned suspension that’s stiffer and positions the wheels on the left- and right-hand side of the car further apart. This should make the new Giulia GTA more agile through fast corners.

The GTA’s cabin is mostly carried over from the standard Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA interior

The new Giulia GTA comes with the same stylish interior as the Giulia Quadrifoglio with a few racy touches. There are fabric loops on the front doors instead of conventional door handles and you get some suede-like Alcantara trim on top of the dashboard.

These racing bucket seats and harnesses come in the track-ready GTAm model.

If you’re planning to take your car on regular track days you can opt for a stripped-out GTAm model. This gets you a roll bar instead of back seats and a set of lower, lighter, more supportive bucket seats with racing harnesses instead of seat belts.

The GTA will set you back more than £161,000.

Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA price and release date

The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA isn’t on sale in the UK yet, but when it is it’ll cost just over £161,000 in GTA trim, and a little more than £165,500 in GTAm spec. You can’t buy one just yet, but expect the order books to open before the end of 2020.
