New Audi SQ2 revealed: price, specs and release date
November 16, 2020 by
The Audi SQ2 has been revamped ahead of 2021 with some new bumpers and some added tech, but no more power. Read on for full details.
- Revised styling
- Same 300hp engine
- Marginally slower 0-60mph
- Same interior
- New Matrix LED headlights
- Extra safety tech
- Likely to cost around £40,600 in the UK
The Audi SQ2 is a posher, supposedly more upmarket alternative to the VW T-Roc R and the Cupra Ateca, although it never looked particularly exciting. A revamped SQ2 will aim to fix this thanks to a visual overhaul and a smattering of new features.
New Audi SQ2 design
The old Audi SQ2 looked boxy, but a bit bland. And, this new model isn’t drastically different. It comes with a new front bumper with smaller air intakes, different grille mesh and some remodelled glossy black trim pieces, but that’s your lot.
There are some new faux vents in the rear bumper, but little else is new. The brake lights, roof spoiler and quad-exhaust tips have been carried over unchanged.
New Audi SQ2 engine and performance
Under the new Audi SQ2’s bonnet sits the same 300hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that you got in the old car. It comes with Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive system and gets the same seven-speed automatic gearbox.
This means the new SQ2 will do 0-60mph in less than 4.9 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds slower than the original SQ2 could manage. Its 155mph top speed is the same as the old car could manage.
New Audi SQ2 interior
The new Audi SQ2’s interior looks the same as the outgoing car’s – so much so that Audi decided not to share any photos of it. So, you get the same free-standing infotainment display, large circular air vents and shiny pedal trims. There’ll be plenty of S logos dotted around the cabin, and you’ll get a set of more supportive seats than in a normal Q2 with optional Nappa leather trim.
New Audi SQ2 technology
You get automatic emergency braking as standard in the new Audi SQ2, but the newly added adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist costs extra. LED headlights come as standard on all new Audi SQ2s and you can pay extra to nab yourself a set of even brighter Matrix LED lights with scrolling indicators.
New Audi SQ2 price and release date
You can order the new Audi SQ2 in Europe now. It costs the equivalent of £40,600, which is more than £3,000 more than the outgoing SQ2. When the new car arrives in dealerships here in early 2021, you can expect it to cost approximately the same as European versions across the range.
