The new BMW 7 Series will be revealed soon. Its design will look very similar to the new all-electric BMW i7 – a car that was teased in official images. Read on to check these out and get an idea of what the new 7 Series will look like.

This alternative to the Mercedes S-Class, Audi A8 and Lexus LS is expected to go on sale in 2022 and will be packed with new technology, including some game-changing interior tech.

New BMW 7 Series design

This new image is an official teaser from BMW showing what the upcoming i7 electric saloon will look like. This new Mercedes EQS alternative will be based on the same underpinnings as the new BMW 7 Series, so it’s very likely the two cars will look similar.

This exclusive render gives you an idea of what the new BMW 7 Series may look like when it’s revealed later in 2022. It certainly has plenty of bold design features to make it stand out in the corporate car park.

BMW’s divisive kidney grilles don’t appear to be going anywhere – they dominate the front of the new 7 Series, and you can even spot them peeking through the camouflage on this new BMW 7 Series prototype (below).

As shown in the BMW i7 teaser, this prototype 7 Series appears to sport a new split headlight design, similar to the new BMW XM concept. This comprises some slim LED running lights above the main beam units.

Spy shots of the rest of the car show similar design cues to the current 7 Series. You can see some slim rear lights and a bold crease running down the side of the car.

BMW may even introduce the first M7 this time around. It’d get subtle yet aggressive visual upgrades, including a horizontally-slatted grille, larger air intakes and unique alloy wheels.

New BMW 7 Series engines

The new BMW 7 Series will come with a range of petrol and diesel engines, most of which will have mild-hybrid systems to boost efficiency. There will also be a plug-in hybrid version, as well as an all-electric version called the i7.

The range is likely to start with a selection of 3.0-litre diesels and 3.0-litre turbo petrols, then work up to a more muscular 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8. There will also be a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid which may have more than 40 miles of electric only range.

The lower powered engines are likely to be rear wheel drive, with the more powerful variants getting xDrive all-wheel-drive.

An 8-speed automatic gearbox is expected to be the standard offering for the new 7 Series.

Though BMW has yet to produce an M7, this could be the first for a new breed of M car. If so, it’d likely borrow the plug-in hybrid V8 system expected for the upcoming BMW XM SUV.

New BMW 7 Series interior

Inspiration for the new car’s cabin will come from the iX SUV, shown here…

The new BMW 7 Series’ interior hasn’t been spotted yet, though you can be sure it’ll be supremely plush and massively spacious inside. If you want even more room to stretch out in, there’ll almost certainly be an extended version, too.

Tech specs will be revealed closer to the car’s launch, though it’s likely the new BMW 7 Series will have equipment on par with the luxurious BMW iX electric SUV.

A more minimalist interior dominated by a huge curved digital display on the dashboard is likely, along with built-in 5G data connectivity and standard voice- and gesture-control features.

New BMW 7 Series Theatre Screen

BMW has also revealed a new 31-inch 8K theatre screen for the rear seats, and it looks likely that it will appear in the new 7 Series.

With the push of a button, the display folds down from the headlining, the rear sunblinds go up and the ambient lighting dims to replicate a cinema experience in the back of your car.

The system will also have a 5G internet connection and video streaming courtesy of Amazon Fire TV. This means if you’re sitting in the back you can watch all your favourite films and TV programmes while on the move.

New BMW 7 Series prices and release date

The new BMW 7 Series isn’t due to arrive in showrooms until late in 2022. Prices are set to rise a fair bit over the current car – expect the range to cost from at least £80,000.
