The new Mazda 2 Hybrid is available to order now, with deliveries expected to start in May this year.

This alternative to the Ford Fiesta and Peugeot 208 is based on the Toyota Yaris and shares that car’s hybrid technology.

New Mazda 2 Hybrid price and specs

The new Mazda 2 Hybrid will be available in three trim levels: Pure, Agile and Select. The range is simplified by the fact that all models will have the same 1.5-litre hybrid engine, as found in the Toyota Yaris.

Pure

The Mazda 2 Hybrid range kicks off with the Pure model, which will set you back £20,300. For this, you get a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, automatic headlights and wipers and 15-inch steel wheels with plastic trims.

Agile

Starting from £21,150, the Agile model gains 15-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, a larger 8-inch infotainment screen and keyless entry and start. For an extra £950, you can add the Comfort Pack which adds LED headlights, sportier front seats, dual-zone climate control and some gloss black details on the exterior.

Select

Top-spec Select models get all the features of the Comfort Pack as standard. In addition to this, you also get larger 16-inch alloy wheels, blind-spot monitoring, wireless phone charging, and front and rear parking sensors. All this will cost you £23,610.

New Mazda 2 Hybrid design

If you think the new Mazda 2 Hybrid looks familiar, you’d be right. That’s because it’s basically a Toyota Yaris with new badges.

The exterior design is exactly the same as the Yaris. This means you get a huge grille that dominates the front end. LED daytime running lights are also available on higher trim levels.

It’s the same story at the back. The Mazda 2 Hybrid gets the same angular tail lights and slightly flared wheel arches as the Yaris.

New Mazda 2 Hybrid engine

It’s wont come as a surprise that the new Mazda 2 Hybrid has the same engine as the Toyota Yaris as well.

It’s a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a 59kW electric motor to produce 116Hp, and Mazda claims it will return over 70mpg.

No petrol or diesel engines will be offered, as this hybrid is going to be sold alongside the existing Mazda 2.

New Mazda 2 Hybrid interior and infotainment

The interior of the new Mazda 2 Hybrid will bring about a sense of deja vu for anyone who’s been near a Toyota Yaris. It shares the same design and technology as the Yaris, meaning it’s logically laid out and well screwed together.

The Mazda 2 Hybrid features a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, as well as a digital drivers display.
