You’ve had a chance to see the all-new Mercedes C-Class, now get ready to check out a range of high-performance AMG versions, including this new AMG C43. It’s likely the C43 and C63 models will get new hybrid four-cylinder engines instead of V6 and V8 units, along with plenty of visual upgrades – as you can see on this camouflaged prototype.

New Mercedes-AMG C43 design

The Mercedes-AMG C43 is traditionally less aggressive-looking than the full-fat AMG C63, but it’ll still get a subtly updated exterior with plenty of cues hinting that it’s no ordinary C-Class. The camouflaged car seen here has a pair of exhaust pipes poking out of either side of the rear bumper and a more prominent front bumper, possibly to accommodate a beefed-up cooling system for its more powerful engine.

The headlights and brake lights look to mimic those of the new C-Class while the alloy wheels look to be generic items – the finished car will get its own bespoke alloy-wheel designs. The previous Mercedes-AMG C43 was available as a saloon, coupe and estate; you can expect these body styles to be offered in the new C43 as well, kicking off with the four-door saloon.

New Mercedes-AMG C43 engines and driving

The outgoing Mercedes-AMG C43’s 390hp twin-turbo V6 is likely to get the axe – chances are it’ll be replaced by a four-cylinder engine instead. The new C43 could well use an uprated version of the AMG A45 S’ 421hp engine, possibly combined with a mild hybrid system.

This means the new car should produce up to 450hp (any more and it’d be in danger of stepping on the faster C63’s toes.) Both the new C43 and the range-topping C63 could come with four-wheel drive for the first time, too.

New Mercedes-AMG C43 interior

The new C43’s cabin will add sporty touches to the new C-Class’s interior, shown here…

No information has yet been released regarding the interior of the C43 AMG but it is highly likely that it will feature an AMG-fettled version of what is offered in the standard C-Class. That means a massive touchscreen display below three oval air vents situated in the dashboard and a new digital-driver’s display with sportier AMG-specific graphics.

The new Mercedes C-Class has a roomier interior than the outgoing car, and this will almost certainly be the case for the new AMG C43, too.

New Mercedes-AMG C43 price and release date

The release date for the Mercedes-AMG C43 has not yet been announced, although you can expect it to be officially revealed later this year and go on sale in early 2022. The current C43 saloon costs from £50,895; the new model should add a few thousand pounds to that figure thanks to its upgraded standard kit and potentially more powerful hybrid engine.
