2022 Range Rover Evoque Long-Wheelbase spotted: price, specs and release date

February 15, 2021 by

The recently updated Range Rover Evoque will soon be available as a more spacious long-wheelbase model. Check out a prototype here…

  • New extended Range Rover Evoque spotted
  • More interior space than standard car
  • Same stylish design as regular Evoque
  • Mix of mild- and plug-in hybrid engines
  • Expected to go on sale in late 2021
  • Prices likely from around £35,000

As these new spy shots show, a stretched long-wheelbase version of the Range Rover Evoque is on the way as a more spacious alternative to other small upmarket SUVs such as the BMW X2, Mercedes GLA and Volvo XC40.

Traditionally, these extended versions of popular small SUVs and saloons have been a big hit in China (even the Jaguar XE received a long-wheelbase version) but there’s a chance the new Evoque long-wheelbase could be offered for sale in other markets, too.

2022 Range Rover Evoque Long Wheelbase design

Despite the disguise this test car is wearing, it’s easy to tell the Evoque you see here isn’t your standard baby Range Rover. The extra length in the car’s wheelbase (the distance between the car’s front and rear wheels) is clear to see, and the stretched shape means the rear windows are also quite a bit larger than they are on the standard Evoque.

Other than the increase in length, the long-wheelbase Range Rover Evoque looks like it shares almost all of the standard car’s design cues. Even with all the camouflage cladding, it’s easy to spot the same blunt bumpers, slim headlights and large front air intakes you’ll find on the regular Evoque. Despite being a longer car, it also seems the extended wheelbase Range Rover Evoque has also retained the standard car’s steeply-sloped roofline.

2022 Range Rover Evoque Long Wheelbase interior

The new car’s cabin will look very similar to the current model’s, shown here…

The new Range Rover Evoque’s interior hasn’t been caught on camera, though it should be broadly identical to the one you’ll find in the regular car. That means the car will have a very plush cabin and the same updated infotainment tech that debuted on the recently updated Range Rover Evoque.

The big changes over the regular Evoque will be easiest to spot in the back seats – this extended-wheelbase model will have significantly more leg room in the back. Having a larger set of rear doors should also make the longer Evoque a bit more versatile than the standard car, and should make it easier for taller passengers to get in and out. You’ll also have a bit more space to play with when wrestling a child seat into place.

2022 Range Rover Evoque Long Wheelbase engines

The Range Rover Evoque Long Wheelbase is expected to come with the same range of engines as the standard car. Expect a range of 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines with power ranging from 200hp to 300hp, as well as a couple of 2.0-litre turbo-diesel options with either 165hp or 200hp.

At the top of the extended Evoque’s engine pecking order is anticipated to be the same plug-in hybrid setup as the regular car; a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and electric motor combo that produces up to 309hp. Because of the longer car’s extra weight, though, it likely won’t be able to match the standard plug-in Evoque’s claimed electric range of up to 34 miles and 143mpg on-paper fuel economy.

2022 Range Rover Evoque Long Wheelbase price and release date

Because the extended Range Rover Evoque is still in the development stage, it’s still some way from going on sale – don’t expect it to land in showrooms until 2022. Prices will be confirmed closer to launch, but you can expect the long-wheelbase Range Rover Evoque to cost at least a few thousand pounds more than the standard £32,000 Evoque across the range.
