New Range Rover Sport spotted: price, specs and release date

The next-generation Range Rover Sport has been spotted. Read on for more on this exciting upcoming SUV, as well as the high-performance SVR version.

More images have appeared of the upcoming Range Rover Sport, which is expected to break cover later in 2022. A high-performance SVR has also been spied, which should follow shortly after the standard car.
With hybrid engines a key focus and potentially a fully electric model in the works, the new Range Rover Sport will be an alternative to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-tron. Don’t worry though, the SVR seems set to return with an old-school V8.
New Range Rover Sport design
There is a lot of swirly camouflage disguising the new Range Rover Sport’s body panels it’s pretty easy to see the family resemblance to other Range Rovers.
The front end retains a similar grille and headlight design to the existing car, though it looks like the bumper itself has seen a bit of an overhaul. Perhaps to bring it in line with the new, range-topping Range Rover.
The door handles have a new flush-finish design, like those fitted to the Range Rover Velar.
The rear is also more of an evolutionary design, with the current car’s signature split tailgate peeking through beneath the wrap. You’ll also spot some chunky new alloy wheels.
New Range Rover Sport interior
No official images of the Range Rover Sport’s cabin have been seen yet but you can expect it to come with a massively updated cabin.
It could nab inspiration from the full-fat new Range Rover. This is likely to include that car’s fresh 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system. As well as supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it even has Amazon’s Alexa built in.
New Range Rover Sport engines
The upcoming Range Rover Sport will have a range of mild-hybrid and hybrid engines as well as fully electric options in due course.
A quick check of this prototype’s reg through the DVLA’s database doesn’t reveal any details about this specific prototype, though.
It’s likely the electric model will be designed in partnership with BMW, and Jaguar Land Rover plans to have its first all-electric Land Rover ready by 2024.
The larger petrol-powered models may also use BMW’s current range of 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 engines.
New Ranger Rover Sport SVR spotted
Prototypes of a refreshed high-performance Range Rover Sport SVR have been snapped undergoing testing.
These look similar to the prototype versions of the standard Range Rover Sport but the keen-eyed among you should spot a few key differences.
Separating this prototype from the standard cars is a real grille rather than a temporary mesh covering.
What hints at this being an SVR are the more aggressive intake cutouts in the camouflage covering the front bumper, along with a set of huge alloy wheels.
At the back of the car, it’s easy to see a quad-exit exhaust setup — a dead giveaway for the V8-powered model.
It’s likely the SVR will use a BMW-sourced twin-turbo V8 engine linked up to a mild-hybrid system — a 25hp increase on the current car. Power should be in the region of 550hp+ and will continue to be sent through an all-wheel-drive system. As a result, expect a 0-60mph time of under 4.5 seconds.
The Range Rover Sport SVR will arrive in 2023, following the introduction of the standard Range Rover Sport later this year.
New Range Rover Sport price and release date
The Range Rover Sport should make its official reveal later in 2022. Pricing has not been announced yet, but the current range starts off at £64,685 for the D250 diesel and tops out at £101,920 for the 575hp P575 supercharged V8.
Prices should see a nominal increase across the board when the new model goes on sale in late 2022.
