New Renault Captur, Megane and Arkana hybrids revealed

Renault’s announced details of upcoming mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Captur, Megane and Arkana. Read on for full details.

New Renault Captur hybrid and R.S Line
You’ll now be able to buy the Renault Captur as a mild-hybrid, in addition to the plug-in hybrid that’s already on sale. The new mild-hybrid uses a 1.3-litre petrol engine with a small electric motor that helps recoup energy usually lost when you brake. It stores this energy in a 1.2kWh battery and uses it to power the motor and give the engine a boost when you accelerate.
Overall, the mild-hybrid system produces 140hp, which is 10hp more than the standard non-hybrid 1.3-litre Petrol engine and 20hp less than the plug-in hybrid version. Unlike the plug-in hybrid, you can’t drive using electrical energy alone, however.
The new Renault Captur will also be available in a sporty R.S. Line trim (shown throughout). This adds some new bumpers with bigger air intakes, R.S. Line badging and some unique alloy wheels. Inside, the Captur R.S. Line comes with plenty of bright red stitching, more red contrasting trim on the air vents, black roof lining, metal pedal trims and carbon-fibre-effect trim on the doors.
New Renault Megane plug-in hybrid
The Renault Megane will soon be available with a plug-in hybrid drive system. This pairs a 1.3-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a 9.8kWh battery. With a full charge, it can store enough energy for you to drive around 30 miles in electric-only mode on motorways and country roads, and up to 40 miles in town.
It’s the same hybrid system that’s already fitted to the Renault Captur plug-in hybrid, so the motor and petrol engine produce the same 160hp combined.
New Renault Arkana hybrid
Renault will also launch a hybrid version of the upcoming Arkana coupe SUV. This swoopy high-riding family car is set to go on sale in the UK in 2021 and will be available with a pair of mild-hybrid 1.3-litre petrol engines with 140hp and 160hp. New Renault hybrids prices and release dates
The Renault Megane, Captur and Arkana hybrids will go on sale in 2021. You can expect the Captur mild-hybrid to cost less than today’s £31,000 conventional hybrid model, while the Megane plug-in hybrid will likely set you back from around £30,000.
The larger Renault Arkana is set to set you back around £26,000 in entry-level trim, but mild-hybrid models will likely cost from a few thousand pounds more.
