You can place your orders now for a new Vauxhall Astra, with prices starting from £23,275.
This alternative to the likes of the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf is available with a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid engines, and will soon be offered in more practical Sports Tourer estate guise in early 2022.
New Vauxhall Astra price and release date
Orders are now being taken for the new Vauxhall Astra, with prices kicking off at £23,275.
That’ll grab you one in Design trim. That bring 16-inch alloys wheels to the car, along with a 10-inch infotainment system with wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other goodies include LED headlights, cruise control and keyless start.
Moving up to GS Line will bring 17-inch black alloys and black trim bits to the Astra, along with adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate and heated elements for the front seats and steering wheel. This costs from £26,170.
Sitting at the top of the range is Ultimate, available from £29,285. This adds 18-inch grey alloys, Vauxhall’s new ‘IntelliLux’ LED headlights, a head-up display and Alcantara seat trim.

New Vauxhall Astra design
The new Vauxhall Astra looks much more modern than the car it’ll replace. The broad bumper with a vizor-like glossy black trim piece that stretches from one minimalist headlight makes the car look lower and wider than most family hatchbacks and the length of the new car’s bonnet is exaggerated by a new crease that runs down the centre.
From the side, you’ll spot a black roof and fin-like metal pillar behind the side windows – just like on the smaller Vauxhall Corsa. Extra creases in the doors and around the wheel arches help make the new Astra look lower and sportier than the old car, too.
Large boot-lid badges are all the rage at the moment (just check out the backside of any new Skoda model), so it’s no surprise Vauxhall has added a large ‘Astra’ badge to the centre on the new car’s boot.
The brake lights are wider and flatter than on the old car, and look quite similar to those on the new Volkswagen Golf.
New Vauxhall Astra-e EV
Vauxhall has confirmed that it will build a new electric version of the Astra called the Astra-e. It hasn’t confirmed what size battery or motor this car will have, or what range it will be capable of, only that it will go on sale in 2023.
It’s likely the new car will have more than the 136hp you get in a Vauxhall Corsa-e, and should deliver around 200 miles of range. Entry-level models should cost less than £35,000 to make sure they qualify for the Government’s plug-in car grant.
New Vauxhall Astra interior and infotainment
Hop inside the Vauxhall Astra and you’re met with a fully digital interior, similar to the one you get in the latest Volkswagen Golf.
There are two 10-inch displays — one touchscreen in the centre and the other to take the place of usual dials and gauges. Some physical controls remain, but most of the car’s functions (such as the climate control) now controlled through the central screen.
You’ve got the option of Nappa leather seats with heating and cooling functions, and you can get these with suede-like Alcantara trim if you prefer.
The new Vauxhall Astra’s front and rear wheels have been spaced further apart than in the old car, which should give it a more space inside – especially for back-seat passengers. The new Astra has 422 litres of boot space – that’s much more than the 370-litre load bay you got in the old model.
New Vauxhall Astra engines and plug-in hybrid
The new Vauxhall Astra launches with a 180hp hybrid petrol engine as its flagship. Vauxhall says this ca do around 35 miles of electric-only range – that’s very similar to the 37 miles of range you get from the mechanically similar Peugeot 308 plug-in hybrids.
There’s also range of petrol and diesel engines to pick from, ranging from 110hp to 130hp. These come with a standard six-speed manual gearbox, with an eight-speed automatic optional for higher output engines. This automatic gearbox also comes as standard on the new hybrid Astra models.
New Vauxhall Astra technology
Semi-autonomous driver-assistance tech makes its way to the new Vauxhall Astra, too. Working with the adaptive cruise control system, this helps keep the car centred within lanes and assists with lane changing.
Other tech goodies include a head-up display, a 360-degree parking camera and long-range blind spot detection.
