Refreshed versions of the Volkswagen T-Roc and T-Roc Cabriolet have been spotted testing. Read on for full details of these popular small SUVs before they go on sale later in 2021.

  • Facelifted VW T-Roc and T-Roc Cabriolet spotted
  • Visual updates to all trims
  • Improved, larger infotainment system
  • Standard digital driver display expected
  • A range of petrol and diesel engines to be offered
  • FWD and AWD variants will be available
  • Pricing to start from around £25,000
  • Should go on sale later in 2021

The Volkswagen T-Roc will soon be available with a subtly updated design and new tech. This revised alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro is set to go on sale in late 2021 in both five-door SUV and soft-top cabriolet trims, both of which have been spotted testing in prototype form.

Facelifted Volkswagen T-Roc design

The current Volkswagen T-Roc still looks pretty fresh, so the new car only gets a few subtle changes. The standard model has a redesigned grille that looks narrower than before, while the rear is largely unchanged save for the subtly different black plastic cutouts in the bumper below the brake lights.

The sportier R-Line trim gets a more comprehensive visual makeover. The front grille receives the same single horizontal line across the centre point and the black detailing around the lower intake as the full-blown Volkswagen T-Roc R.

The rear bumper also mimics the T-Roc R with longer triangular slats replacing the smaller two-piece design.

An almost completely uncamouflaged Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet has also been spotted out on the roads. it shares the subtle front and rear updates with the standard model, including revised daytime running lights and a slightly flatter grille.

The fabric folding roof looks to be unchanged, too.

The interior of the current model is both functional and fairly high-tech thanks to an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The new car may get the same upgraded infotainment tech as the new Polo and Polo GTI (shown here)

The new car is expected to get a larger infotainment screen and standard 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, similar to what has been shown in the updated VW Polo and the new VW Taigo SUV.

Facelifted Volkswagen T-Roc engines and driving

The current T-Roc range includes two diesel engines with either 115hp or 150hp, and three petrol units ranging from 110hp to 190hp. These are most likely going to be carried over to the new car.

Front-wheel drive will be standard on most models but top-spec diesel-powered cars are expected to come with four-wheel drive. A six-speed manual should be offered on entry-level models, although most will be equipped with automatic gearboxes.

Don’t worry if you’re waiting for a new Volkswagen T-Roc R – there’ll be an updated version of that car along at some point, too.

Facelifted Volkswagen T-Roc price and release date

There is no word yet on what the prices will be for the updated T-Roc. The current range costs from £24,185 for the Active model equipped with the 110hp petrol engine and tops out at £37,645 for the R-Line trim with all-wheel drive and a 190hp petrol engine. The T-Roc Cabriolet starts at £28,010.

Prices for the new variant should be slightly higher across the board but you will get a refreshed interior and some additional equipment for the extra outlay.
