New Fiat Tipo and Tipo Cross revealed: price, specs and release date

October 27, 2020 by

The Fiat Tipo range has been updated and now features a high-rise, SUV-like Tipo Cross model. Read on for full details.

  • New Tipo Cross revealed
  • Chunkier styling
  • Raised suspension
  • New digital driver’s display
  • On sale in November 2020
This Tipo Cross is an all-new addition to the Fiat Tipo range.

Despite its value-orientated pricing, the Fiat Tipo is a relatively rare sight in the UK. This new Cross model will bolster the Tipo range and give Fiat a direct alternative to the likes of the Ford Focus Active, Kia XCeed and the more upmarket Audi A1 Citycarver. These are all family hatchbacks that have been given the SUV cosmetic treatment.

Contrasting trim features on the Tipo Cross’s bumpers and side skirts.

The Tipo Cross follows on from the similarly styled Panda Cross city car, so it comes with a beefed-up front bumper featuring a skid plate on the lower edge and a bit of silver contrasting trim running across the bumper below the number plate. A mesh grille extends below the headlights and there’s a set of deeper side skirts below the doors.

Black wheel-arch trims make the Tipo Cross look taller and tougher than the standard car.

Estate versions come roof bars as standard, which contribute to the new Tipo Cross being 70mm taller than the old car. You can chalk up 40mm of this extra loftiness to the new Tipo Cross’s jacked-up suspension and bigger tyres, however.

The standard Fiat Tipo comes with a new grille and redesigned bumpers.

The rest of the Fiat Tipo range has been refreshed as well, four years after it was first launched. Design changes include new full LED headlights (that’ll never need their bulbs changing), new bumpers and a redesigned grille featuring Fiat’s new logo, shown above.

These look like normal dials, but they’re actually the Tipo’s new digital driver’s display.

Inside, the old car’s analogue dials and gauges have been replaced by a fully configurable 7-inch digital display panel.

A new steering wheel gives you a better view of this display and the air conditioning controls have jazzier chrome and black inserts, but the Tipo’s cabin still isn’t a patch on the super-flashy cabin you get in the new Fiat 500.

Full prices for the new Tipo range will be announced when the car goes on sale in November.

Fiat Tipo and Tipo Cross price and release date

Full UK specs – including engine choices – and prices for the revised Tipo and Tipo Cross will be announced before it goes on sale in November. The standard Tipo is expected to cost from around £15,500 (which is broadly the same as the current car) while the new Tipo Cross model will likely cost at least £1,000 more across the range.
